Certificate: 12A
Running time: 118 minutes
Directed by: Peyton Reed.
What’s it about: Scott Lang is struggling with the consequences of his choices as both a Superhero and a father. When he is confronted with an urgent mission, which means he must again don his Ant-Man suit and fight alongside the Wasp, he soon finds himself engaged in a battle with a powerful new enemy.
The verdict: There have been murmurings that audiences are experiencing superhero film fatigue. And with Ant-Man and the Wasp being the twentieth offering from Marvel, and the film that had to follow the massive success of Infinity War - there was the chance that Ant-Man and the Wasp might fall flat and be a disappointment. Happily, that is not the case.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is a fun, easy watch, funny, throwaway film - and it’s all the better for it. After the intensity of Infinity War, this is the perfect Marvel film to remind us about the lighter side of Marvel. The action sequences might not be the most awe-inspiring of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but they definitely still do the job. In particular, look out for a brilliant action sequence involving the Wasp in a restaurant kitchen.
The characters all work well together, and have good chemistry. I particularly like the dynamic between Hope and Hank. And Michael Peña again is brilliant as Luis. There is plenty of light relief in this film, and there were lots of moments where I laughed aloud.
In terms of criticism, I think it depends on what your expectations are for this film. If you’re looking for another Marvel film to rival Infinity War’s massive scale and edge of seat action, then you may come away disappointed. In Ant-Man and the Wasp, the stakes don’t feel high. Whether this is a negative or a positive however, is up to you. Personally I loved that the film felt easygoing. I still watched it fully engaged throughout. My only slight criticism would be that I felt that Scott didn’t really have any character development - from the previous film or throughout this one. But as that didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the film, then this isn’t a big problem.
For those who are interested to see how this film ties into previous films, especially Infinity War, and if there are any Easter eggs in the film; I won’t spoil anything by telling you either way. All I will say is that there are always interesting things to look out for in a Marvel film.
And of course, as is well known by now, there are mid and post credits scenes to stay tuned for. In this case, there are two overall. And actually the mid credits scene is pretty awesome. Marvel fans will definitely find themselves going “oooh!” (Or at least, that’s what I did).

Should you watch this film? Yes! Ant-Man and the Wasp probably won’t be your favourite Marvel film. But it is the perfect film for the summer, and is certainly enjoyable and massively entertaining.
